Seamoon Fresh Fuzz

Seamoon were a small company that grew out of the Berkley music scene in California in the early 70s and were probably best known for their Funk Machine envelope follower. They also produced this distortion/fuzz pedal which is said to have been designed by effects pioneer Craig Anderton. It’s an opamp based circuit which came in 2 versions, one with an LM741 and the other with a 4558 chip. It can go from slightly gritty with the Bite (drive) at min to some really nice, crunchy distorted tones at mid Bite levels. At higher Bite settings the fuzz is fat and full with a good throaty growl and lots of gain on tap. It’s also quite sensitive to pick attack and cleans up surprisingly well with the guitar’s volume rolled back. Reported to be once used by Eric Johnson, the huge output level makes them ideal for use as boosters, with a hint of dirt added by the Bite control.
