FAQs

Where can I buy the pedals?
Custom builds are only available through this website. A few small batches of various Editions will be available through a handful of dealers.
Just contact me with any purchase inquiries or for any other information. I accept Paypal, bank transfer or postal order (Ireland only).

How are they built?
They are all hand-built by me in Carlow, Ireland. Everything is hand-done, from the drilling and painting to the wiring. They are mostly built using very rugged die-cast aluminium Hammond enclosures unless otherwise stated. Occasionally I’ll source some different boxes for some one-off builds. Lock washers are used on all jacks, switches and pots to prevent them from coming loose over time. They are usually hand-painted and primed using Hammerite hammertone paint which provides a durable finish. I’m also looking at getting a run of boxes powder-coated locally. The pedals are all powered by a 9v battery or a standard Boss-style power supply, though on some positive ground circuits I will omit the DC jack. The circuits are built on either veroboard (stripboard), phenolic tagboard or on occasion, PCB. Each pedal comes with 4 stick-on bumper feet, unattached. For now, I’m not using decals/graphics, as I quite like the simple look and it’s so time consuming. It also means I can keep the price as reasonable as I can. I am however looking at a dry decal technique which looks very promising, which I hope to use to incorporate some designs by various folk in the not too distant future.

Can I hear them?
I’m currently working on providing audio samples for each post. Some videos are also in the works. Rather than expose you to my awful playing, I’m having some experienced, gigging guitarists put each pedal through its paces and record some audio clips and their feedback has been invaluable.

What’s in stock?
Right now, each new build is added as a new post in the Blog section and is available to buy at the listed price. If there’s no price, it’s already been sold or was built for someone. Any of the pedals on the site can be custom built on request (see below). New pedals will also be posted on my twitter page.

Can mine have a…?
Any of the pedals shown can be custom built on request. Choices can include colour*, knobs, layout (where appropriate), LED colour, modifications, component types, extra functions/switches/knobs etc. They can also be built using a toggle switch instead of a stomp switch for table-top use. There’s no additional charge to the listed price for a custom request, unless some pricey parts are required for modifications. A deposit of €20 must be paid for each custom build before I start. The deposit is non-refundable if you decide you don’t want the pedal once it’s built. It is refundable if you choose to send the pedal back (see returns).

*Please note: powdercoat colours are only done in small batches, usually for Editions, and are not available for one-off, Custom builds. For Custom builds, you can choose from the Hammerite range of colours (red, blue, green, silver, gold, black). If you want a powdercoat for a Custom build, I may be able to put the box in with an upcoming batch to be powdercoated in whatever colour I’ll be getting done in (€6.50 charge). The powdercoating is done professionally by a local company; Carlow Coatings Ltd.

Can you make me a…?
While I will be concentrating on vintage effects, (vintage fuzzers are a particular favourite of mine) if you’re looking for a particular pedal not shown here, let me know and I might be able to build it for you.

How long does it take?
A regular custom build should take about 2-3 weeks (not including shipping). Sometimes longer if I need to research something I haven’t built before or order specific parts from abroad.

Where/how do you ship?
I ship worldwide through standard Irish post. Registered/insured shipping with a tracking number is also available at an additional cost. I take no responsibility for orders that go missing in the post, unless it has been sent registered/insured. There’s no additional charge for packing or handling. Shipping costs are available on request. See An Post for standard shipping charges.

Can I return it?
Returns are accepted, preferably within 2 weeks, for a full refund once the pedal is returned in the same condition it went out. Please let me know beforehand if you need to return an item.

Do they have a warranty?
Each comes with a 3 year warranty which covers construction faults or malfunctions though they are built to last a lot longer. I’m also reasonable about repairing self-inflicted damage or if any modifications are required.

Why pedals?
Not long ago, I was looking about for a simple way of getting into some DIY audio hacking as a means for some new live/recording tools, particularly on the lines of fuzz/distortion, where software just doesn’t really cut it. I came across some effects pedal kits which seemed like a neat way of obtaining some tried and tested effects circuits. Once the first box roared into life I was sold. I always had a soft spot for pedals but never really explored them much before. They incorporate so many different fields of interest for me. From music, recording, audio production, music technology, electronic engineering, instrument design/functionality, DIY, crafts, art, graphic design, popular culture, music history, all tied up in one neat little box. Not to mention the fact that it’s good to get away from the computer from time to time.

Pedals are teh suck. Where’s your music stuff?
